Georgia non-profit to address local opioid epidemic

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Beyond the Bell is hosting a town hall meeting to educate Macon-Bibb County on opiods.

Beyond the Bell is a non-profit aimed at educating students and families about the dangers of underage drug and alcohol use.

Beyond the Bell Macon Leader, Sandra Dean, says the opioid epidemic is serious in Macon-Bibb. 

The town hall will include an in-depth panel discussion to examine the effects of the overdose epidemic on the community.

Dean says fentanyl and other harmful substances in the illicit drug supply are causing sharp increases in fatal and non-fatal overdoses.

The town hall meeting will be at Ebenezer Baptist Church on August 22 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
