Georgia Music Hall In Macon To Possibly Close

The fate of the Music Hall of Fame Museum is winding down. Today, 7 of the Music Hall of Fame Authority Board Members met via teleconference.

The Board is set to make its final decision on March 31, 2011. Currently, the museum is set to run out of funds around June 30th, which means its doors will close regardless of a decision. The Board has decided to grant the four bidding cities 2 weeks to add to their proposals.

According to board member Robert Gibson, none of the bidding cities met the statutory requirement for long term funding for the museum. ??

????It is also requiring museum director, Lisa Love, to come up with a plan for the museum’s·collections if the board decides to reject all the bids and close the museum. According to Love, she has had a plan in place for more than a year anticipating a closure.

Rose Lane Leavell, one of the newest board members, also proposed looking for funds from foundations to at least keep the museum open for another year in Macon.

The Authority Board will meet at 9am on March 31, 2011.
