Georgia lawyers collect more than a million pounds of food

ATLANTA (AP) – Georgia’s attorney general says the state’s legal community collected the equivalent of more than a million pounds of food during an annual food drive competition.

Attorney General Sam Olens said in a news release Wednesday that the state’s lawyers and their staff collected $298,189 and 37,501 pounds of food during the fifth annual Georgia Legal Food Frenzy. Each dollar represents four pounds of food.

Olens says the competition has collected the equivalent of more than five million pounds over five years for state food banks.

A total of 289 law firms and legal organizations participated.

Lawyer Joe Habachy won the grand prize – the Attorney General’s Cup – for the third consecutive year by collecting the equivalent of 37,450 pounds.

Mercer University School of Law won the law school division.
