Candidates qualify for Georgia House races affecting Middle Georgia voters
Georgia House Districts 133, 142, 145, 147, 149 and others will appear on the May primary ballot.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Candidates have qualified for several Georgia House of Representatives races that will appear on the May 19 primary ballot affecting Middle Georgia voters.
The races include districts covering Bibb County, Houston County, Baldwin County, Laurens County, and surrounding areas.
Voters will decide party nominees during the May primary election. Winners will advance to the general election on November 3.
Several incumbents have qualified to seek reelection, while challengers have entered a number of primaries across Middle Georgia districts.
Georgia House races affecting Middle Georgia
Several Georgia House districts affecting Middle Georgia voters will appear on the May 19 primary ballot. Those races include:
• District 133: Danny Mathis (R) vs. Robert Wayne Pruitt (R)
• District 134: Robert Dickey (R) – unopposed
• District 142: Miriam Paris (D) vs. George Elton Thomas Jr. (D); Calvin Palmer (R)
• District 143: Anissa Jones (D) – unopposed
• District 144: Dale Washburn (R) – unopposed
• District 145: Tangie Herring (D) vs. Eric Wilson (R)
• District 146: Shaw Blackmon (R) – unopposed
• District 147: Bethany Ballard (R) vs. Renita Duncan (D) or Tim Riley (D)
• District 149: Floyd Griffin Jr. (D) vs. Ross Sheppard (D); Randy Peters (R)
• District 150: Patty Stinson (D) vs. Cary Moore (R)
• District 155: Joe Powers (D); Matt Hatchett (R) vs. Charles Cook (R)
Georgia House District 133
In Georgia House District 133, incumbent Republican Danny Mathis of Bleckley County has qualified for reelection.
Mathis lists his occupation as working in funeral services.
He will face Republican challenger Robert Wayne Pruitt of Dodge County, who lists his occupation as a small business owner.
The Republican primary winner will advance to the general election.
Georgia House District 134
In Georgia House District 134, Republican incumbent Robert Dickey of Musella has qualified for reelection.
Dickey is currently unopposed.
Georgia House District 142
In Georgia House District 142, Democratic incumbent Miriam Paris of Bibb County has qualified for reelection.
Paris lists her occupation as a realtor.
She will face Democrat George Elton Thomas Jr. of Bibb County in the Democratic primary. Thomas lists his occupation as a leasing director.
The winner of the Democratic primary will face Republican Calvin Dennis Palmer of Bibb County in the general election.
Georgia House District 143
In Georgia House District 143, Democratic incumbent Anissa Jones of Bibb County has qualified for reelection.
Jones lists her occupation as a doctor of chiropractic.
She is currently unopposed.
Georgia House District 144
In Georgia House District 144, Republican incumbent Dale Washburn of Bibb County has qualified for reelection.
Washburn lists his occupation as a real estate broker and consultant.
He is currently unopposed.
Georgia House District 145
In Georgia House District 145, Democratic incumbent Tangie Herring of Bibb County has qualified for reelection.
Herring lists her occupation as a teacher.
She will face Republican Eric Shannon Wilson of Monroe County, who lists his occupation as a business owner.
The two candidates will compete in the general election.
Georgia House District 146
In Georgia House District 146, Republican incumbent Shaw Blackmon of Houston County has qualified for reelection.
Blackmon lists his occupation as president of National Bank Products Inc.
He is currently unopposed.
Georgia House District 147
In Georgia House District 147, Republican incumbent Bethany Ballard of Houston County has qualified for reelection.
Two Democrats have qualified to run in the primary:
Renita Duncan, a retired command sergeant major
Tim Riley, a retired professional counselor
The Democratic primary winner will face Ballard in the general election.
Georgia House District 149
In Georgia House District 149, Democratic incumbent Floyd Griffin Jr. of Baldwin County has qualified for reelection.
Griffin lists his occupation as retired.
He will face Democratic challenger Ross Sheppard, a realtor from Baldwin County, in the Democratic primary.
The primary winner will advance to the general election and face Republican Randy Keith Peters of Baldwin County, who lists his occupation as a medical CEO.
Georgia House District 150
In Georgia House District 150, Democratic incumbent Patty Stinson of Taylor County has qualified for reelection.
Stinson lists her occupation as a business owner.
She will face Republican Cary Lee Moore of Sumter County, who lists his occupation as an insurance agent.
Georgia House District 155
In Georgia House District 155, Democrat Joe Powers of Laurens County has qualified for the race.
Powers lists his occupation as media and sales.
Two Republicans have also qualified:
Incumbent Matt Hatchett of Laurens County, who lists his occupation as a director
Charles C. Cook of Laurens County, who lists his occupation as working in logistics
The Republican primary winner will advance to the general election.
