Georgia Governor, Atlanta Mayor, Braves Officials Meet
ATLANTA (AP) – Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed have met with representatives from the Atlanta Braves after the team announced it would leave the city for a new stadium in the suburbs.
Deal spokesman Brian Robinson would not describe the brief discussion that took place Wednesday at the governor’s office. Robinson said that Deal would comment on the stadium proposal later in the day.
Earlier this week, the Braves announced that the team would leave its current stadium in downtown Atlanta for a new $672 million facility in the Cobb County suburbs.
Reed has said the city could not compete with the financial assistance offered to the team by Cobb officials.
