Georgia General Assembly’s Annual Session Kicks Off Monday

 MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – On Monday, Georgia lawmakers will head back to the gold dome to begin the 2013 session of the Georgia General Assembly.

In Macon, local lawmakers gathered as they prepared for their big day. A teary-eyed David Lucas thanked a crowd of supporters at a reception Sunday. On Monday, Lucas will head up to Atlanta to officially take on his new role as state senator for Georgia’s District 26. For Lucas, his plan is to focus on his entire district.

As for State Representatives James Beverly and Patty Bentley, the budget is expected to be a tough battle.

According the senator’s aide, State Senator Cecil Station is expected to drop a bill early on in the session, calling for non-partisan elections in the newly consolidated Macon-Bibb County government
