Decision 2024: Georgia election official says 2024 election will be the safest, most secure election in history

"I know there's been a lot of misinformation, disinformation around this," says Gabriel Sterling. "The 2024 election will be the safest, most secure election in Georgia in American history."

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Election Day is underway across the nation and voters in Middle Georgia are at the polls.

Chief Operating Officer in the Office of the Georgia Secretary of State, Gabriel Sterling, says polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.

“If you were in line at 7 and the polls close, you are legally allowed to vote,” says Sterling. “You are absolutely allowed to vote.”

Sterling also discussed misinformation about the election and ensured that voting is safe in Georgia.

“I know there’s been a lot of misinformation, disinformation around this,” says Sterling. “The 2024 election will be the safest, most secure election in Georgia in American history.”

Sterling says voters need to show their voter ID when they vote and to check their voting location. Sterling added “We work hard every day, every week, every year to make sure that your vote is safe and will be counted properly.”

Sterling encourages all voters to go out and vote.

“Yesterday JD Vance was here, Sunday we had President Trump in Macon, and Saturday Jon Bon Jovi and Kamala Harris were in Atlanta,” says Sterling. “There’s a reason they’re all here because it’s really close. So everybody’s vote in this state especially is going to matter. If you’re in California, I can tell you we know who’s going to win California. You know, if you’re in Alabama, I can tell you who’s going win Alabama. When you’re in Georgia, your vote carries that much more impact.”
