Georgia Congressman Honors SEC Bet With Alabama Colleague

WASHINGTON (AP) – Alabama’s victory in the SEC championship game cost a Georgia congressman two bags of fried pecans.

U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston of Savannah delivered the snack to an Alabama colleague, Rep. Terri Sewell of Birmingham, to settle a wager they placed on the football showdown between the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama’s Crimson Tide.

Kingston wore an Alabama necktie and Bear Bryant fedora when he met Sewell on the Capitol steps to give her fried pecans made by Rockingham Pecans in southwest Georgia.

Sewell wore red and black as a nod to the vanquished Bulldogs. Had Georgia won, she would have owed Kingston ribs from Dreamland Bar-B-Que in Tuscaloosa.

Kingston, who settled his bet Thursday, says he’s urging Georgia fans to root for Alabama to defeat Notre Dame for the national championship.
