Georgia College launches Call Me MISTER program

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Georgia College is the only University in the state of Georgia to offer the “Call Me, MISTER” program.

It will give students financial assistance, residential housing, and mentorship to become teachers.

This program aims to increase the pool of teachers from a more diverse background.

The program is targeting under-represented populations, specifically African-American males. The Director of Call Me, MISTER said this group of people is only 2 percent of teachers nationwide.

“The ultimate impact we’re hoping that comes from this is that, these individuals will come from and go back out into their own communities to teach. That’s when you really have that type of transformative education that I think really gets at the entire initiative of Call Me, MISTER,” explained Emmanuel Little, The Director of Call Me, MISTER at Georgia College.

The Georgia College of Education is currently recruiting the first group of students for Call Me, MISTER.

The priority application deadline is February 1st.
