Georgia Chamber of Commerce unveils historical marker honoring its Macon roots
President and CEO of the Georgia chamber Chris Clark says this historical marker will bring Macon back to its history.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Historical Society unveiled a historical marker Thursday honoring the Chamber’s founding in Macon more than a century ago.
The marker is now on display outside the Macon City Auditorium. The significance of the location stems from the first Georgia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting, which was held on September 16, 1913, at Hotel Dempsey—just a short distance from the current site. The Georgia Chamber was officially incorporated in 1915.
Chris Clark, President and CEO of the Georgia Chamber, says the historical marker helps reconnect Macon with its past.
“We felt it important to celebrate not only the Georgia Chamber but all chambers of commerce, the importance of free enterprise, by having this marker here,” he said. “Our work is recognized by this marker, but also by history initiative for our high school students to learn more about business, economic development and the important role that enterprise plays in Georgia’s economy.”
Clark said the unveiling of the historical marker honors the Georgia Chamber’s more than 100 years of history.
