Georgia Beats Alabama, 4-1, to Grab Spot in Semis
MACON, Ga. (41NBC/WMGT) – The Warner Robins American League team, representing the state of Georgia, snuck by Alabama, 4-1, on Monday morning at Little League Southeast Park in Warner Robins in a must-win pool play game to advance to the tournament semi-finals.
Coming into Monday’s final day of pool play, all four teams in Georgia’s pool B (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina) had records of 1-1. The top two teams at the end of the day would advance to the semis.
With the win over Alabama, Georgia moved to 2-1 and into the semis. North Carolina (2-1) knocked off Florida (1-2) later on Monday afternoon, 6-4, to grab the pool’s other semi-final spot.
In pool A action, Virginia entered play on Monday at 2-0. South Carolina and Tennessee were both 1-1, and West Virginia was 0-2.
Tennessee (2-1) knocked off South Carolina (1-2) on Monday afternoon, 14-4, in four innings.
As the No. 2 seed in pool B, Georgia will play the winner of pool A, Virginia, Wednesday at 6 p.m. after the leader of pool B, North Carolina, takes on pool A’s No. 2, Tennessee, at 1 p.m.
The semis will be televised by ESPN2.
