GDC investigating death of inmate at Pulaski State Prison

HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An inmate at Pulaski State Prison died Sunday, and the cause of death remains under investigation, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
GDC confirmed that Kristi Perkins died on July 12. Officials said the cause of death is undetermined.
According to the Department of Corrections, there were no reports of an altercation and no signs of foul play.
Perkins’ body was turned over to the county coroner and will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.
As is standard procedure, the death is being investigated by the Georgia Department of Corrections’ Office of Professional Standards. Officials said no additional details are available while the investigation remains ongoing.
According to the Department of Corrections, Perkins was convicted of aggravated assault in Troup County and was serving a five-year sentence. Her maximum release date was listed as 2030.
