GCSU Women’s Tennis Adds Peach State Trio

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (GCSU ATHLETICS) – With three additions from the Peach State, Georgia College women’s tennis and head coach Steve Barsby were listed among the Honorable Mentions of top recruiting classes in the country by www.TennisRecruiting.net .

Among the mid-major top-25, TennisRecruiting.net had just two non-Division I programs listed in Division III Emory and Johns Hopkins. The Bobcats were just outside the list as honorable mentions.

“I’m very excited to bring such a strong group of Georgia girls in, as it speaks to the awareness that Georgia College as a University has throughout the state,” said Barsby. “With this group of girls, our women’s program is definitely moving in a positive direction both on and off the court.”

GC tennis’ class features three recruits from within Georgia, four-star Macy Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) and three-stars Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee, Ga.).

Macy Polk’s 2013 TennisRecruiting.net ranking was 89th, with her tennis RPI at 91. She has also had plenty of success in doubles action with twin sister Cristalei, both graduates of Mount Paran Christian School. Cristalei owns a 254 rank from TennisRecruiting.net, and 339 tennis RPI.

Serdina has trained at the Atlanta-area Tennis Academy of the South. She is ranked 182nd by TennisRankings.net and owns a 274 tennis RPI. She is a recent graduate of North Gwinnett High.

This trio will help bolster a roster losing three seniors who were four-year starters. The Bobcats went 16-12 with a 7-6 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) record. Bobcat women’s tennis made its 19th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2012-13, falling in the Region Finals to eventual National Champion Armstrong Atlantic State University.
