GCSU Students Enjoy Eco-Friendly Wellness Center
Students at Georgia College and University are enjoying a new wellness center. The 100,000 square foot facility boasts the latest green technology.
Dave Terrell, director of the wellness center, says, “We’re getting a lot of ‘wows’.”
One GCSU student says the minute she walked in she noticed all the windows; 96% of the entire building is covered by windows. It helps bring in natural light.
“We’re not using electricity when we don’t have to,” says Facilities Planning Project Manager, Mark Bowen.
The building is full of eco-friendly initiatives. The roof has a reclaiming system, which helps irrigate the lawn.
Terrell says, “in the long run we’ll be saving on utility bills for years to come.”
It’s a high efficiency building with sustainability at the center of its design,
“Not only just strong bodies, but strong minds… strong environment,” says Bowen.
Some of the exercise equipment follows those principles. Students can actually work out on them and them and the energy they create helps power the Wellness Center.
The facility cost $28 million dollars to build. The school was able to raise the money through student fees.
Terrell says, “Students are just really enjoying it. They’ve been wanting something like this for a long time, and now they’ve got it.”
