GC Women’s Basketball Announces 2013-14 Schedule

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) –  The Georgia College women’s basketball team and head coach Maurice Smith are proud to announce the 2013-14 schedule.

The Bobcats will kick off their season by taking on the University of West Georgia Saturday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Carrolton, Ga.

The team will then go on the road to play in the Nighthawk Classic in Dahlonega, Ga. where they will play in a four-team tournament.

The season’s home opener will be Nov. 26 against Clark Atlanta University at 5:30 p.m. in the Centennial Center. The Bobcats will start conference play in December when they take on Francis Marion University. The first home conference game will be Jan. 4, against the University of North Georgia.

Nine conference games will be played in the month of January and five of them will come in the Centennial Center. The Bobcats will round out the month of January by playing the 2012-13 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Champions, Clayton State University, at home Jan. 29. The No. 5 Clayton State Lakers and the No. 10 Limestone College Saints are the only ranked opponents the Bobcats will play during the regular season.

The homecoming contest will be Feb. 15 where the Bobcats will take on Columbus State University. Senior Day will be the last home game, which will be Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m. against Lander University.

The season will come to a close March 1, when the team travels to Armstrong Atlantic State University.

The Bobcats look forward to the upcoming season and will have second-team All-PBC player, Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.), returning to the squad for her junior year. In the 2012-13 season she averaged 16.5 points and 4.7 rebounds. Keys became the first Academic All-American in program history last year. The Bobcats will also have junior Enisha Donley (Loganville, Ga.) returning with an average of 11.5 points and 4.2 rebounds a year ago.
