GC Soccer Falls at Barry, 1-0

gcsuMIAMI SHORES, Fla. (GCSU RELEASE) – Georgia College soccer (0-1) dropped a 1-0 decision at Barry University (1-0) to start the 2013 season Thursday night, as a first-half goal held up.

The goal came in the 28th minute, as a Sara Kama pass from the right wing found the head of Lavinia Nkomo for the 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats were out-shot 16-8, with returning All-Southeast Region forward Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) taking five of the eight attempts.

Freshman Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta, Ga.) made four saves in five tries for the Bobcats, seeing her first collegiate action. Becca Rogers made four stops as well for the shutout.

The Bobcats managed half of their eight shots in the second half, the final scoring chance sailing high off the foot of Veilleux with just over 10 minutes to go.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Sept. 7 at noon, traveling to Nova Southeastern University.
