GC Men’s Tennis Kicks Off Season Friday

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College men’s tennis team kicks off their spring season Friday, Feb. 7 against Morehouse College at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility. The Bobcats start the season nationally-ranked No. 11 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the same position they ended last season. This year’s squad features four returners and two freshmen, as well as four international players and two from the state of Georgia.

Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) is the lone senior on the squad, while sophomores Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy), Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.), and Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) round out the upper-classman slate, with the latter ranked No. 16 in the Southeast Region by the ITA. A season ago, Haas carried a 16-6 singles record and a 14-11 doubles mark and was named Peach Belt Conference Freshman of The Year.

The two newcomers include freshmen Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.) and Anton Waern (Taby, Sweeden).

The 2013 team ended their season with a split in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals in late April. They defeated Francis Marion University before bowing to eventual national runner-up Armstrong Atlantic State University.

The Bobcats finished 19-7 overall and 7-3 in the PBC last season.
