GC Men’s Basketball Drops Battle of the Cats III at ASU, 69-44
AUGUSTA, Georgia (GCSU ATHLETICS) – The Georgia College men’s basketball team (6-9, 2-6 PBC) spotted Augusta State University (9-5, 5-3 PBC) a 20-point lead to start the third edition of the Battle of the Cats rivalry game, battling throughout before falling 69-44 Monday night.
Junior guard Aaron Robinson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was the lone Bobcat in double figures at 10 points, adding four rebounds and a pair of assists. He went 3-of-9 from the floor and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. Scott Ferguson (Roswell, Ga.) added nine to the scoring line.
The Bobcats were outshot 44% (25-57) to 28% (16-58). They were also out-rebounded 45-34 but hung with the Jaguars on the offensive glass, falling in that category, 12-11.
Georgia College couldn’t find the mark for the first 9:20 of the game, a drought broken by a Tarrence Chatman (Macon, Ga.) jumper. He finished with five points.
The Jaguars put three in double-figure scoring, led by 2012 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Freshman of the Year Devon Wright-Nelson at 17 points and seven boards. Devonte Thomas had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Ryan Weems notched a double-double at 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m., traveling to USC Aiken.
