GC Cross Country to Host Bobcat Invitational Friday

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Head coach Joe Samprone and the Georgia College cross country programs are excited to welcome six quality cross country programs to the West Campus Cross Country Course for the Bobcat Invitational Friday, Sept. 13.

The women’s race begins at 6 p.m. and is a 5K distance. The men’s 8K begins at 6:30 p.m.

Georgia College will welcome teams from South Georgia State College, Dalton State College, Gordon State College, USC Aiken, Armstrong Atlantic State University and Young Harris College.

Armstrong will bring a men’s team only, USCA a women’s team, while all else will compete in both races.

Both Bobcat teams will treat the race as their annual Cancer Awareness meet, with the women sporting pink shirts for breast cancer awareness and the men wearing orange for prostate cancer awareness.

Four races have been run all-time at the West Campus Cross Country Course, including the 2008 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championship. The course record for the women is 18:45 by Allison Kreuetzer of Clayton State University in 2008, at the regular-season race. The course record for the men is 26:07, owned by Clayton State’s Fidelis Mutiso, also at the same race.

The Bobcat record for the men’s side is 27:49, set by Colin Conroy at that same race in 2008. The Bobcat women’s record also came that day, as Karissa Ekstrom finished in 20:07.
