GC Bobcat Men Take Second, McNeil First at Captain Chris Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (GCSU RELEASE) – Led by a race win from sophomore Paul McNeil (Dunwoody, Ga.) the Georgia College men’s cross country team took second Saturday at the Captain Chris Invitational, hosted by Christopher Newport University.

McNeil broke the tape in the 8K run at 26:42, besting the field by six full seconds. This marks the first career race win for McNeil, but the third for a Bobcat men’s runner this season. The time was also a personal-best for McNeil, placing him ninth in the school recordbooks.

Sophomore James Ryden (Atlanta) was fourth in the 38-runner field, finishing in 27:07, edging classmate Trevor Turner (Snellville, Ga.) by four seconds in fifth.

Sophomore Michael Warrick (Marietta, Ga.) was eighth in 27:33, while senior Tucker Forbes (Lilburn, Ga.) took 23rd in 30:28.

The Bobcats had just 35 team points, losing to host CWU by eight. The Captains are members of the NCAA Division III Capital Athletic Conference (CAC).

GC cross country is back in action Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships in Americus, Ga.
