GC Athletics Adds Three New Graduate Assistants to Training Staff
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Head athletic trainer Paul Higgs and the Georgia College Athletic Training Staff are pleased to announce the addition of three new athletic training graduate assistants for the 2012-13 season, all pursuing graduate degrees in human performance at Georgia College.
“We are very fortunate to have these three professionals joins us as graduate assistants,” said Higgs. The fact that three AT programs are represented among our graduate assistant staff gives us a wealth of skill and perspective as we care for our injured Bobcats.”
Serving as the baseball contact for Georgia College is Chris Mathis from Louisville, Ga. Mathis is a graduate of Valdosta State University where he earned a degree in athletic training. As an undergraduate he assisted in basketball, football and soccer.
Graduating with Mathis from Valdosta State was Beth Walsh who will be the Bobcat softball contact for the 2013-14 academic year. Walsh is from Sugar Hill, Ga. and has experience in basketball, women’s soccer and football from her undergraduate studies.
Candy Bailey is from Pell City, Ala. where she graduated from the University of Alabama AT program. Bailey will serve as the volleyball and tennis contact for the season. Candy was assigned to work with the Crimson Tide women’s basketball, soccer, swimming and diving programs during her undergraduate rotations.
The trio joins Higgs, assistant athletic trainer Evan Cherone and returning graduate assistant Kelsey Huhn to provide complete coverage for all 11 Bobcat varsity sports. The athletic training staff, along with team physicians, coordinates the healthcare of the Bobcat student-athletes including injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. All staff members are nationally certified and state licensed as athletic trainers.
