GBI shuts down Alamo City Hall during search
Agents searched for five hours looking for information about who has been misappropriating city funds.
GBI Special Agent-in-Charge Eve Rodgers says Oconee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Tim Vaughn requested the probe.
“We seized six or seven banker’s boxes of documents that we will now be culling through,” said Rodgers. “This investigation is very much in the early stages. We’re focusing our investigation on the last two to three years.” Rodgers added the district attorney requested the Alamo City Hall investigation after receiving complaints from residents and other city officials.
A GBI spokesperson says, because the investigation just started, they do not know who is responsible for misusing the city’s money.
41NBC reached out to Alamo’s mayor, Debbie Fountain, for a comment about the GBI probe. She has not returned our calls.
