GBI investigating deadly shooting in Jasper County
MONTICELLO, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man is dead after he was shot by Jasper County deputies this week.
It happened Monday just before midnight.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says deputies heard gunshots while they were responding to a complaint from a woman, who says a man pointed a gun at her while walking on Grandview Road.
Deputies found 46-year-old Jeffrey Cantrell once they reached the home where they heard the gunshots.
Investigators say Cantrell told deputies that they would have to kill them.
The GBI says Cantrell and deputies exchanged shots.
No word on who started firing first.
Cantrell died at the scene and no officers were hurt in the incident.
The case will be turned over to the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office once an autopsy is complete.
