WRIGHTSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/ WMGT) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Wrightsville that left one man dead early Monday.

According to the GBI, the Wrightsville Police Department requested the investigation after the incident occurred around midnight on October 27 outside the SideTrack convenience store on East College Street in Johnson County.

Preliminary information indicates that a Wrightsville police officer was speaking with a man outside the store when another man, identified as 32-year-old Diamond Daspin Seltzer of Wrightsville, arrived in his vehicle.

Investigators said Seltzer got out of his car, walked over to where the officer and the man were talking, and attacked the man with a sword. The officer then got out of his patrol car and shot Seltzer as he continued the attack.

Both Seltzer and the man were taken to a hospital in Dublin. Seltzer later died, and the other man is in stable condition, according to authorities.

Seltzer’s body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Wrightsville Police said the man who was attacked is a local firefighter.

Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Dublin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
