GBI Identifies Suspect Killed by Deputy

19-year-old Robert Kendrick Chambers, of Warner Robins, has been identified as the suspect shot and killed by a Houston County Sheriff’s deputy Monday morning.  According to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Chambers died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The deputy, 51-year-old Steve Glidden, has been with the sheriff’s office for five years.  He’s on paid administrative leave while the GBI determines whether he used appropriate force in the shooting.

According to investigators, Glidden was questioning Chambers after a burglary on Sweetwater drive when the two got into a fight.

Craig Rotter, Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge says when the suspect started to reach for the deputy’s gun, Glidden shot him.  Chambers died on the scene.

A handgun belonging to the suspect and stolen electronic equipment were recovered at the scene, Rotter said.

Feagin Mill Middle School was placed on lockdown briefly as the incident unfolded.
