GBI Identifies Body as Trey Byers

A body found in Crawford County has finally been identified as James “Trey” Byers. The remains were found Saturday, near a wooded area off Fair play Hill Road.

Byers’ fiance Lisa Humphreys says, “No family should go through this. I know the children will grow up with his memory alive in their hearts and in their minds, but they shouldn’t have to.”

After going missing from Taylor County on December 18th of last year, Byers’ family is trying to put the pieces back together to slowly find closure.

“Something I thought was going to be a cold case and go on for a long time thankfully some turkey hunters found the body and that gave us some closure,” said Byers’ brother Mitch Posey.

The GBI says he died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

21 year old Cody Daniel Jackson has been in jail since January 11th, for the murder of Byers. The GBI is still investigating and continuing to interview witnesses.
