Gateway Macon Rolls Out a Music Competition to Keep Macon in the Music Spotlight

The group behind the “A Little More Soul” music video about Macon, is now offering $25,000 to pen your own piece of music about the city.

The Gateway Macon Initiative wanted to find a unique way to get Macon noticed again. With its rich cultural and music history, the group decided a music video was the best way to promote the city.

Since “A Little More Soul” was such a hit, Gateway Macon is now offering bands and singers the opportunity of a lifetime. By writing a song about Macon and entering the contest, the winning group will have a music video shot and produced for them. They will also get time in a recording studio, professional C.D.’s of their music made, and many other items to help get their name noticed.

Producer and music man Steve Moretti of Morettiman Music in Macon, says the prize package is actually worth more than $25,000. But getting Macon back to the forefront of the music industry, and promoting the good of Macon, is what this contest is all about.

“People know Macon and the music history. They know about Otis Redding, they know about Little Richard…We have such a rich music history, but we have a lot going on right now. And that’s what I want. Not only our local community to get excited about. What I want people on the national level to realize is, Macon’s got a lot going on,” Moretti said.
