Gary Thrower wins Milledgeville mayoral runoff race
Unofficial election results show the businessman won the runoff election by 35 votes. Floyd Griffin received 49% of the vote with a total of 1,099 ballots. Thrower received 51% of the vote with 1,134 ballots cast in his favor.
Thrower’s family and friends congratulated him as the results were read. He said during his campaign the biggest concern among Milledgeville residents was his position on consolidation. He said he supports unification, but has some problems with the proposed charter.
“My goal would be to initially start working with commissioners and the city council to see if there are ways that their departments could merge services and personnel. Maybe we could run a little bit more efficiently in some areas,” explained Thrower.
Thrower will finish the unexpired term of former mayor Richard Bentley. He resigned in October because of health reasons.
Griffin tells 41NBC he will ask for a recount. No word on when that will happen.
