Ga. School Board to Debate Math Curriculum Changes
ATLANTA – The Georgia Board of Education is expected to
take up a measure that would overhaul the state’s much-criticized
mathematics curriculum.
The measure would allow schools to choose whether they want to
offer traditional math classes or stick with a blended curriculum
put in place in 2004. The blended curriculum mixes lessons on
algebra, geometry and trigonometry into one course.
The new curriculum has drawn ire from parents and students who
say it is too confusing and outrage from teachers who say they
weren’t given enough training on how to teach it.
The board will discuss the measure Wednesday and is expected to
vote on it Monday.
