GA Forestry Commission Clears Concerns over Control Burn

The Georgia Forestry Commission spent the day clearing up some confusion today. Yesterday the commission burned nearly 400 acres close to the Jones-Bibb County lines.

According to Chief Ranger, Howell Crutchfield, overnight winds moved smoke from the control burn to the River North Subdivision,
 and into sewer systems there.  

The Commission tells 41 NBC smoke in the sewers can present a health hazard.

“We try to do these burns to keep that from happening and sometimes it just happens you know. We do everything in our power to keep from inconveniencing people,” says Howell.

The Macon-Bibb Water Authority asked the Georgia forestry commission to burn the land to prepare for the next wildfire season.

The burning near the River North Subdivision is finished.
