Ga. Counties Head for Judge in Line Dispute

MACON, Ga. – Bibb County commissioners are preparing to go before a judge in their county line dispute with Monroe County.

A three-day border hearing is scheduled to begin Monday morning in the Office of State Administrative Hearings in Atlanta. Special Assistant Administrative Law Judge John A. Sherrill will hear the case, which has been delayed twice due to illness.

Surveyor Terry Scarborough says the line should be moved farther south. Scarborough says the western anchor should remain in about the same spot, but the eastern anchor, site of a former Ocmulgee River ferry, should be considerably farther south. Bibb County says Scarborough is wrong.

Sherrill is expected to make a recommendation on the facts. The case will then go to Secretary of State Brian Kemp.
