Free school supplies and backpacks
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A large crowd of Bibb County students and parents turned out for the “500 Backpack Giveaway.”
Larry Guyton of Guyton Entertainment used a team of volunteers to stuff 500 book bags with a pencils, paper and other school supplies.
The event was held Thursday at Alexander Ballroom located at 3670 Eisenhower Parkway.
Students and their parents formed a line which wrapped around the ballroom plaza into the parking lot.
Organizers passed out tickets to each student for entrance into the event. That way they could prevent overcrowing the ballroom.
Sheryl Wyman and her granddaughter, Darlene Cotton, were the first in line. Wyman said she waas greatful for the free school supplies.
“It’s a blessing that the community is helping other people that need the extra help with the children or their grandchildren with school supplies,” she said. “I’m glad that I’m here today to get the extra help.”
