MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Free Bikes for Kids Program in Middle Georgia is collecting and giving away free bikes to children in need.

So far, they’ve collected about 1,500 bikes, just 500 shy of their end of the year goal.

The director for The Free Bikes for Kids in Middle Georgia, Charise Stephens-Merriweather, says the program is part of a national movement to get more kids on bikes and to get them outside again.

“When we first started, we realized a lot of kids never had the joy of a bicycle,” she said. “So, I’m like, ‘We need to get more bikes out in the community,’ so we went out to get partnerships, individual donations. We ride up in neighborhoods, and we don’t just give one kid a bike. If it’s ten kids on a block, all ten kids get a bike.”

If you’d like for your child to get one of these bicycles, all you have to do is fill out a form at the website, fb4midga.org.
