Free Adopt-A-Stream Workshops Held for First Time in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Residents in Macon looking to keep their environment clean, have a chance to learn how, at the premier of Adopt-A-Stream training workshops.

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) along with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources is hosting the free workshops.

People can learn what they can do to help keep the cities lakes, rivers and streams clean.

The hands on workshops are designed to train volunteers on how to evaluate water quality by using chemical and bacterial monitoring methods that determine a stream’s health. The chemical parameters of the training include monitoring for water/ air temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and conductivity. The bacteria monitoring will focus on measures of e.coli bacteria.

“The purpose is to re-certify current adopt a stream trainees and actually have new folks get involved with adopt a stream,” says the Director of Lab and Environmental Compliance, Mark Wyzalek. “So, they can learn about chemical bacteria logical testing.”

The workshops are scheduled to be held Dec. 14, Saturday. The first workshop will be held from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m. The second workshop is scheduled to be held from 2 p.m., to 5 p.m.

They will be held at MWA Support Services Facility located at 918 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., in Macon.
