Francar’s @ Bowden opens its doors to hungry golfers
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Golfers may be used to birdies, maybe even an eagle or two, but now regulars at the Bowden Golf Course in Macon can enjoy some chicken: chicken wings, to be precise.
That’s because Francar’s @ Bowden’s held their grand opening today, and will now afford golfers a chance to enjoy a handful of flavored wings right next to the green.
The restaurant resides in the newly renovated clubhouse, and offers a variety of menu items which include chicken salad, ham sandwiches, hot dogs, and, of course, those famous wings.
This is Francar’s second location in the city, a new addition to the existing establishment located in Mercer Village, which opened in 2009.
Owner Carl Fambro partnered with the city of Macon to make sure this new location became a reality.
“We’re looking to provide competitive opportunities for local business owners to come in and, you know, provide for us those goods and services that they have,” Dr. James Louis-Bumpus told 41NBC last week.
Louis-Bumpus is the director of the Office of Small Business Affairs for Macon-Bibb.
Manager of the Bowden Golf Course, Brandon Doles, believes the restaurant will do a lot to help the surrounding areas as it potentially brings in more customers, “Along with the restaurant here, and with the improvements to the golf course, it’s going to ultimately bring more money into this community.”
“To see this place go from where it is was to now is a huge, huge improvement,” Doles continued. “Getting this restaurant open is a huge challenge I’m glad to get done.”
City SPLOST funds were used to remodel the retail space, allowing Fambro to be able to open the eatery. Other areas of the facility were also upgraded, but Doles knows there’s still work to be done.
“I would like to eventually re-do some of the greens, and revamp some of the tee boxes around here,” he said. “We’re making the best of them right now, and we can only make them better.”
