FPD’s Longest Serving Faculty Member Set to Retire
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Students honored one of their teachers at a surprise assembly at First Presbyterian Day School in Macon Thursday.
After 50 years of teaching, 8 years at Riley Elementary and the last 42 years at FPD, English teacher David Walton will be retiring at the end of the school year. Several of his students took turns sharing their favorite memories from his class, reciting his favorite poem, and watching a slide show. A teary-eyed Walton and his wife sat in the front row, enjoying every moment.
“Quite a surprise to walk in that door and realize ‘uh-oh’ what am I walking into…very emotional for me, tears of joy, but a wonderful experience,” said Walton.
Walton is the longest-serving member of FPD’s faculty. He said at 72-years-old, it’s time to slow down.
The assembly was held inside the Clark Fine Arts Center.
