Four Northside High Students Headed to Division I Schools
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Four Northside High football players signed to two different schools, all to play Division I football.
Receiver Keshun Hill and offensive tackle Taylor Lay committed to Georgia Southern University. Receiver Robert Davis and linebacker Trey Payne will be heading to Georgia State University.
Signing Day at Northside High School was reminiscent of this year’s Super Bowl. The power went out right before the ceremony and because the intercom system wasn’t working a lot of the seniors weren’t able to attend.
“It’s unfortunate,” said Defensive Coordinator Kevin Smith, “those kids weren’t able to be down here to watch them sign the scholarship.”
But a little power outage, didn’t keep the game changers in the dark. The players are already physically preparing for their next opponent.
“I hope to get a lot bigger and stronger,” said Davis,” but that’s going to come with age.”
“Hopefully, get faster,” said Payne, “that’s what I plan on working on.”
While others are preparing, mentally.
“Ever since I was young, I was like I’m be there someday, so now that I’m here it’s amazing,” said Hill, “now I just have to keep proving myself.”
“I want to learn to be a better man,” said Lay, “just like my coaches keep telling me.”
All the teammates describe their group as a “brother hood”, and while they’re sad it’s all coming to an end. They plan to meet again, only this time, on a bigger playing field.
