Four Bobcats, Women’s Tennis Honored by ITA

SKILLMAN, N.J. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College women’s tennis team and four individuals were honored recently by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in the organization’s year-end academic awards.

The Bobcat women’s team was chosen as an ITA All-Academic Team, while sophomore Sarah Murray (Alpharetta, Ga.), senior Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and graduated seniors May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Michelle Linger (Dunwoody, Ga.) were selected ITA Scholar-Athletes.

Last spring, Murray posted a 3-17 singles record and a combined 8-13 in doubles action in her inaugural season as a Bobcat. Marevic was 8-14 in singles her second season with the Bobcats, but led the team in doubles wins with 19. In their final season at Georgia College, Johnson went 18-7 in singles action, while Linger was 9-9. Marevic, Johnson and Linger were all named to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) All-Academic Team.

The Bobcats posted a 16-12 record overall in the spring of 2013, finishing fourth in the PBC Tournament, and eventually ending their season with a loss in the NCAA Southeast Regional. The GC women have now made 19 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.
