Four Airlines Competing to Provide Passenger Lines at Middle Georgia Regional Airport

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Four airlines are competing for the chance to fly passengers from Middle Georgia Regional Airport to Atlanta, and possibly other cities throughout the southeast.

Doug Faour is the general manager of the airport. He says four different proposals came in from the following companies: Seaport Airlines, Silver Airways, Sky King Airlines, and Sovereign Air.

Three of the bids would provide service to Atlanta. Some of the airlines also want to provide service to other cities including Charlotte, Orlando, and Nashville.

“We’re excited in the number of proposals that we got, and the cities that they offered in. So we think that it’s going to be a positive impact on the airport… and uh, I’m confident that we’ll see an airline that wants to be here and that will be here for a long period of time,” says Faour.

Faour believes one of the reason’s it’s been so difficult to secure a passenger airline at the airport is because of the economy. He says the airline industry has been struggling, but he’s confident it’s finally beginning to pick up again.
