MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Fossett family’s pursuit of transparency following the 2024 death of Stephen Fossett at the Bibb County Jail is ongoing, and their attorney says they have yet to receive open records requested from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Attorney Mawuli Mel Davis, who represents the family, said during a news conference last week that the sheriff’s office had seven days to respond to their request. The request asked for all videos related to the incident that ended in Fossett’s death. According to Davis, that deadline has now passed, and the family still has not received a response.

The news conference was held after the District Attorney Anita Howard’s office announced it would not file charges against deputies involved in Fossett’s death.

Attorney Davis said they plan to contact the county attorney on Monday to seek assistance in obtaining the requested documents.

Once contacted, the county attorney will have three days to respond. If no response is received within that timeframe, Attorney Davis said the legal team will move forward with filing a lawsuit for open records violations.
