Fort Valley State University student dies, university confirms

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 19-year-old Fort Valley State University student has died, school officials confirmed.
Joshua Da’Mon Woodard, a sophomore visual and performing arts student from Perry, died late Saturday evening at Emory Healthcare in Warner Robins, according to Houston County Coroner James Williams.
An autopsy will be conducted at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death. Williams said Woodard had been suffering from an illness, and no foul play is suspected.
FVSU announced Woodard’s death in a statement Monday, calling him an honors scholar and engaged student.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of Mr. Joshua Woodard,” FVSU President Paul Jones said in the statement. “Our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with his family and loved ones at this time.”
