Fort Valley Names Interim Women’s Basketball Coach

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (FVSU ATHLETICS) – Fort Valley State University Interim Athletic Director Willie Williams has announced the appointment of Erica Henry as interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach of the Lady Wildcats basketball team.

“I am excited to have Erica Henry joining our family,” said Williams. “Her skill set and personality fits perfectly into our Wildcats family. We’re looking forward to her return.”

The Shreveport, Louisiana native is joining the Lady Wildcats for the first time as Head Women’s Basketball Coach but this will be Henry’s second stop at FVSU, as she served as an assistant coach in 2011-12 under Coach Lonnie Bartley.

Before coaching at FVSU, Henry was an assistant coach at Grambling State University. At Grambling State, Henry was instrumental in recruiting the No. 1-ranked class in the country in 2013, which included two-Parade All-Americans. She primarily worked with the post players and served as the practice coordinator, scouting coordinator and academic coach.

Prior to Gambling State, Henry was an assistant coach for FVSU women’s basketball and volleyball. With the Lady Wildcats, she helped lead the team to a 22-7 overall record, a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) regular season title, SIAC championship and a NCAA DII tournament appearance.

Before her stint at FVSU, she served as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Darton College (Georgia). She helped guide the Lady Cavaliers to back-to-back (20 win) seasons and back-to-back Georgia Junior College Athletic Association Final Four appearances in the State Tournament.

Prior to her coaching career, Coach Henry played collegiate basketball at Fresno State University, where she earned many accolades and awards. She also led her team to the schools’ first ever WAC regular season championship, WAC tournament championship and a NCAA appearance. Henry’s teams appeared in two National Invitational Tournaments (NIT) in 2005 and 2007.

Henry earned her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Health and Rehabilitation Services from California State University-Fresno and is currently completing her master of education degree in Health and Physical Education from Albany State University.
