Fort Valley Mayor/Council Fire Public Safety Director

Chief AndersonFORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Thursday night Fort Valley City Council and Mayor voted 4 to 3 to terminate Public Safety Director John David Anderson.

Anderson was put on administrative leave after a female patrol officer alleged sexual harrassment against him.

City Administrator Martha McAfee’s investigation did not confirm those allegations, but she concluded Anderson had unprofessional and inappropriate interaction with the female officer and other employees.

McAfee’s recommendation was to fire Anderson on the grounds his ability to serve and command was compromised. Although he voted in favor of the recommendation, Mayor John Stumbo, praised Anderson for his accomplishments including getting the city’s police department state certified.
