FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Nineteen lives were changed in an instant Wednesday morning when flames rose from the College Square Apartment’s in Fort Valley.

Mayor Jeffery Lundy says organizations like the American Red Cross, The management of College Square, and local churches have stepped up to give the victims shelter, food and clothing.

“Were working with other apartment complexes who have extended many apartment’s that will be readily available,” he said. “Our staff here at the city will be working with the management of College Square and hopefully those that have been displaced in that fire, they can be in a home setting while repairs are being done.”

The mayor says he wants the victims to know the city is doing all it can to help.

“And they’re also going to have some representatives that’s going to come down for those who were on medication, and make sure they don’t have to pay for medication that was lost in the fire. So, the spirit of help throughout the city is being shown in that situation,” he said.

He says he hopes those impacted can receive some sense of normalcy.

“We’re looking forward to continuing that work to see the outcome and the outpour for those families,” he said.

If you want to provide items to help the families, you can donate to the American Red Cross, Fort Valley churches and D Chop Shop Barber Shop in Fort Valley.
