FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Fort Valley City Council voted Thursday night to terminate both the City Administrator and the City Attorney.

“I’m going to appeal,” City Administrator James Woods said Friday. Woods says he doesn’t know if it’s going to make a difference, but he hopes the citizens will speak out against the council members who voted to dismiss him. He hopes those who voted to terminate him will reconsider their vote.

“It couldn’t have come at a worse time,” Fort Valley Mayor Jeffery Lundy, who abstained from voting, said. Lundy says he believes the vote was personal since both the attorney and administrator were endorsed by him. The decision comes on the heels of the previous council working to get Mayor Lundy removed from office.

All of this comes at a time in which the city isn’t recognized as a local government by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs due to delinquent audits dating back to 2018.

Woods says prior to this decision, he was on the cusp of bringing huge opportunities to the city, including a lot of jobs and other things that would’ve changed the face of the Fort Valley.

Both Woods and City Attorney Quinton Washington have 30 days left in their roles. Woods says he plans to look at all of his options, including how he can keep his job. We’ve reached out to Washington for comment but have not heard back.
