Forsyth Police, Local Pharmacy Working to Get Extra Pills Out of Homes

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Pharmacist Jep Castleberry says there are a slew of side effects that could become reality when prescription drugs fall into the wrong hands.

“There’s so many things that could go wrong by these people some of them taking advantage of other people’s medication that they can get their hands on,” said Castleberry.

In September, Castleberry Drug company teamed up with the Forsyth Police Department to sponsor a drug drop box.

“By having a place where they can bring em and disposed of them, I think it’s doing some good,” said Investigator David Brown, FPD.

Castleberry says customers come in regularly asking how to dispose of extra medication. He directs them to the box where drop-offs remain anonymous.

“Nobody is going to be held accountable,” said Castleberry.

He says it’s the best alternative to flushing or throwing pills away, and he loves the program.

“It feels really good to be a part of it, because parents can protect their kids from these medications, and they can protect the environment as well,” said Castleberry

With two trash cans at the police department filled to the brim, Castleberry is confident the drop box is working.

“It’s probably going to save a lot of trips to the emergency room, it’s probably going to save a lot of pain and sorrow,” said Castleberry.
