Former Robins Air Force Base Leader Proposes Federal Employee Appreciation Day

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Retired Maj. Gen. Robert McMahon, former commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center and president of the 21st Century Partnership, is proposing a creative way to show federal workers they’re appreciated.

He’s calling it Federal Employee Appreciation Day and he’s asking all local businesses to offer an incentive or discount to federal employees on Thursdays.

Now that sequestration is in effect, beginning in April, civilian workers at Robins Air Force Base will take a pay cut and 20 furlough days. The weekly day of thanks, is McMahon’s way to support both military and civilian workers, while giving back to local businesses

“It’s an opportunity to embrace our businesses in Middle Georgia and allow them to perhaps draw more folks back out into these business should the furloughs actually take place,” McMahon said.

He hopes to start Federal Employee Appreciaton Day as early as April. It’s up to participating business owners to decide what discount to offer.
