Former Public Works Dir. Richard Powell Appeals Termination

Richard Powell submitted an official letter to Macon City Council appealing his termination as Macon’s Public Works Director.

Powell submitted a letter to council requesting an appeal, and said he will submit additional information for his reasons at a later date.

According to the cities’ attorney Powell waived his right to a hearing before city council, but still wants to appeal his termination through documents.

Council member Elaine Lucas says there isn’t a current procedure for this because most employees who appeal their termination accept their right to a hearing.

“I think the employee and administrative interaction has been compromised. We are to sit as a jury; council is to sit as a jury when this employee appeals to us,” said Lucas.

The procedure of hearing the appeal will be discussed in the next council meeting, Tuesday, February 22nd.
