(NBC)- New details are emerging about the fight that left former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez hospitalized in critical condition — and now facing criminal charges.

Police say the 38-year-old was stabbed multiple times early Saturday morning outside a bar near the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. According to a police affidavit, surveillance video shows Sanchez throwing a man — identified as a 69-year-old delivery truck driver — to the ground after an argument over where the man had parked his vehicle.

The victim told investigators that Sanchez appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol, and had slurred speech. The affidavit says the man pepper-sprayed Sanchez before pulling a knife and stabbing him three or four times, later telling detectives, “This guy is trying to kill me.”

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to cover the Colts–Raiders game for Fox Sports, whose colleagues addressed the shocking incident live on-air. Prosecutors described the altercation as “a disagreement that should never have escalated into violence.”

Sanchez was treated for stab wounds to the upper torso and later charged with misdemeanor battery and public intoxication. The 10-year NFL veteran joined Fox Sports as an analyst in 2021.
