Former Centerville Employee Sentenced to 20 Years Probation for Stealing Taxpayer Money
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A former Centerville city employee is sentenced to 20 years on probation for stealing taxpayer money.
32-year-old Cinnamon Hovezak pleaded guilty February 4th to fiduciary theft and computer forgery, after stealing the money and manipulating the transactions on the computer to hide the thefts.
Her probation includes paying back $24,000 in restitution to the city. She is also not allowed to have any accounting jobs.
She was prosecuted by Houston County Assistant District Attorney Jacob W. Poole, who said, “Those trusted with the money of the taxpayers will be held to the highest ethical and moral standards. If those standards are violated, and a crime is committed, there will be serious consequences.”
District Attorney George Hartwig summed up the case by saying, “the City of Centerville had placed its trust in Ms. Hovezak… [she] violated that trust and stole from the citizens of Centerville. If you steal from someone who was good enough to give you a job, you will be prosecuted to the full extend of the law.”
